One Person’s Trash is Another Person’s Treasure

Charity Shopping

Often people are put off by the thoughts of charity shopping, but in the times of a recession, charity shopping is set to be the next big thing in fashion. With the craze surrounding vintage clothing and one of a kind piece’s, no wonder second-hand shopping is becoming increasingly popular. Getting a new wardrobe at a minimal price is incredibly desirable and best of all the profits are going to foundations that help those in our society. With my tips I will help you make the most out of your charity shop visits.

Tip 1: Shop early in the week.
Most donations are made at the weekends and will be snatched up quickly! Also keep in mind of the end of college terms. Many students tend to donate a lot of household items, so keep an eye out for kitchen ware, bed linens and crockery.

Tip 2: Always try on clothing items.
I can’t emphasize this enough. Do not dismiss an item of clothing because it’s bigger than your size. Especially when it comes to vintage clothing sizes were different back then.

Tip 3: Give yourself plenty of time.
Don’t quick scan the rails. Give yourself plenty of time to rummage and you could discover that hidden gem.

Tip 4: Be inspired.
To make the most of your shopping experience, try to think outside of the box. Some garments may not look so great on the hanger, try to customize your clothing by using materials & fabrics, D.I.Y vintage jackets or make use of buttons.

Tip 5: Check Location.
If you’re looking for better quality clothing or accessories make sure to visit shops in the more affluent parts of town. Generally you will find designer brand hand-bags, purse’s and shoes in these areas.

Tip 6: Bring cash and bags.
Make sure to bring cash as some shops don’t accept cards. Also bring plenty of bags because you never know what you might find.
