Womens March On Washington

unnamed

I am about to become Fountain Resource Groups foreign correspondent (for the next week)! I am off to the United States to take part in the Women’s March on Washington on Saturday 21st and will be reporting on the event.

I grew up in the D.C. area but left for Dublin and Ireland in the late 70’s and lived here ever since. But the politics of the last year there with the denigration of women, blacks, disabled and almost any ethnic group that is not white has made me fear for those groups in America and what America might become under this leadership.

I am old enough to have been at the first Earth Day (1970) and the anti-Vietnam War demonstrations. They are a part of my political DNA. Uniting now with other women and men to say we see a positive, inclusive, ecologically responsible, caring future is a march I want to be on. I have a 74 year old friend driving with 4 others the 10 hours from Boston to come to the march, I have a friend flying in from California and a cousin of a friend coming from Toronto, Canada. We are all traveling with hope in our hearts and a commitment to a belief it’s up to all of us to keep our mission for social, economic and political justice alive.

I want to share an amazing video of the speech of Nina Turner last Monday found on www.facebook.com/PoliticalRevolution/videos/1381311045254441/. The speech was made at the Martin Luther King memorial on his national holiday. It shares with a fervor beyond my ability to replicate the hopes and goals of the marchers worldwide.
