Book Launch & Workshop at IMMA

The Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) is hosting a book launch and workshop taking place today, the 23rd of May 2017, to introduce Francis McKee’s new book Even the Dead Rise Up. Even the Dead Rise Up is published by Book Works.

The book covers the subjects of spiritualism, the occult and mysticism and the writer’s own investigations and observations as reporter, in the form of a series of 1960’s journalistic monthly essays and images.

The workshop forms part of the IMMA: As Above, So Below – Talk Series, which is currently running from the 13th of April to the 27th of August 2017 and will take place in the Johnston Suite between 6 pm and 7.30 pm.

The evening will open with a lecture discussing the art works of Puerto Rican artists, Tony Crux and Bea Santiago Munoz, conducted by McKee, on the religion Santeria (or the way of the saints), and will conclude with refreshments and the book launch.

The workshop will explore tarot card reading, show a film of the artist and feature a discussion with invited guests Gavin Everall, the editor of Book Works, and Christine Danielle Vierling, a tarot and astrology reader.

Francis McKee is an Irish writer, curator and spiritualist who now lives’ in Glasgow. He works as Director of the Centre for Contemporary Art in Glasgow and is a research fellow of Glasgow School of Art.

This is Francis McKee’s second book, he wrote a book called How to know what’s really happening in 2016. Even the Dead Rise Up is about political situations that involve disappearances and how he and societies use séances and tarot-influenced visions to search for these problems to be resolved.

But the only way to know what’s really happening will be to get yourself a copy of Even the Dead Rise Up and meet the man himself on Tuesday at IMMA.
